The
Doula Book
Marshall Klaus, John Kennell, & Phyllis H. Klaus
A good
summary of the role of a doula and impact a doula can have
on labor and birth. Studies are used throughout to show the
benefits and all are referenced. Unfortunately, many of the
studies consisted of small groups of women so it is
difficult to know how much of an impact a doula can have in
larger groups. |

| What to look for in a good book
on labor & birth |
| |
|
A good childbirth book should present all your options,
exploring the choices of where you can give birth, the type of labor and
birth experiences you could have, pai relief options and the choices
available for the early postpartum period. |
| |
|
The language should be balanced and not condescending.
The images should be positive ones of women giving birth in upright
positions. Diagrams should be
clearly labeled and easy to understand. |
